The Sunflower House

by Adriana Allegri
Historical Fiction- This well-researched debut novel offers a moving, heartbreaking, yet hopeful story, uniquely exploring the experiences of Germans who opposed Hitler, even those in the SS. It tells the story of Allina and her connection to the horrific Lebensborn program. - where Aryan women are bred with SS soldiers – in an attempt to have the purist of Aryan children-a truly chilling premise.-The Sunflower House by Adriana Allegri #historical Fiction #reading #WWII #Nazi

Book Review

(by- Linda )

This is a fantastic book on a little know program that is yet another ugly part of Nazi history. It's the story of one woman's experience of being forced to work as a nurse at Hochland Home. The sole purpose of this home was to encourage Aryan women to procreate with German soldiers to create children of "pure Aryan blood." I knew very little about this program and found it a fascinating topic to read about.

I love how this author navigated this dark and complex topic - but still managed to show the resilience of the human spirit and balance this horrific program with the inherent goodness in people.

I also loved that the characters felt incredibly real and complex - I was completely drawn into their world and emotionally invested in the story and the characters.

Well done, Adriana Allegri, on your debut novel.
