Fantasy is different from my usual genre, but I needed to pay attention to all the chatter surrounding this book. Sometimes, stepping outside your comfort zone works, and this book was a five-star read for me. It's a long book filled with romance, sex, dragons, and action, and I couldn't put it down. As the first installment in a series, this book left me wanting more. Rebecca Yarrow's skill in keeping readers engaged and guessing is impressive. The book has 'aha' moments, so read closely. It all comes together beautifully! It begins with Violet Sorrengail, who enters the war college as a scribe and becomes a dragon rider despite her disability. Like the author, Violet has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a degenerative condition affecting connective tissues in the human body. Then the battles begin! I highly recommend this book, as there is much to discuss. It would make an excellent Book Club Book. ***From the Author's website Trigger Warning: Fourth Wing is a nonstop-thrilling adventure fantasy set in the brutal and competitive world of a military college for dragon riders, which includes elements regarding war, battle, hand-to-hand combat, perilous situations, blood, intense violence, brutal injuries, death, poisoning, graphic language, and sexual activities that are shown on the page. Readers who may be sensitive to these elements, please take note, and prepare to enter Basgiath War College . . . |
