Yesteryear

by Caro Claire Burke
Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke book cover - psychological thriller about influencer culture and identity
(by Andrea)

This is one of those books that pulls you in fast and then keeps shifting your perspective in ways you don't quite expect. Yesteryear follows a lifestyle influencer whose carefully curated life starts to unravel, and what makes it so compelling is how believable it all feels. You're constantly questioning what's real, what's performance, and how much of either actually matters.

What really stood out to me is how sharp the commentary is on social media and the pressure to present a perfect life. It's unsettling in the best way because it doesn't feel exaggerated. It feels close to reality, maybe a little too close at times. The story leans into that tension, showing how easily image can take over identity and how hard it is to separate the two once everything is on display.

It's also a great book club pick because there's so much to unpack. The characters aren't always likable, but they are interesting, and that's what keeps you thinking about them after you finish. The ending definitely gives you a lot to talk about, and it's the kind of book that sparks strong opinions and really good discussion.
