Book Review

(by- Linda )

I loved how Famous Last Words is both suspenseful and emotional. It's a twisty thriller that keeps you guessing while also exploring love, trust, and the secrets we keep, looking at how well we truly know the people we marry. It starts strong, hooking you from the beginning as Camilla, a new mother, suddenly realizes her husband has disappeared. Soon after, she learns that he is the gunman in a hostage situation.

Camilla is in love with her husband and the life she shares with him and their infant daughter. She can't reconcile the man she knows with the one portrayed on TV. As a reader, you lean into this and want Luke's situation to be a terrible mistake - you're rooting for Camilla and Luke. I connected with them, especially Camilla, and wanted her beautiful family (and life) to be whole.

I also liked Niall, the hostage negotiator whose life also changed that day. He is a sensitive man, and although he's no longer a negotiator, this case haunts him. He can't understand why his instincts were so off that day. He also loves his wife and is devasted when she leaves him, claiming he works too much. He is determined to solve the case and put his marriage back together.

The pacing in this story is strong, and the twists are surprising- I didn't see a few coming. This is a must-read if you like a psychological thriller with an emotional pull.
